Right now at Ramapo College of New Jersey there is a lot of controversy over the new alcohol and guest policies. A major part of the new alcohol policy is the ban of the energy drink and alcohol combination drink known as ‘Four Loko’. The drink by many standards is unhealthy and has led to the hospitalization of twenty-three Ramapo College students. As a student at the college, it the media frenzy that followed the banning of this popular alcoholic beverage that really was surprising.
In the short article, “Ramapo College Bans Caffeinated Alcoholic Beverages”, found on NJ.com there is a brief synopsis of why these drinks have been banned and how it is not only being irresponsibly consumed by college students, but high school kids as well.
The video of the Fox 5 news report done on the subject of Ramapo College’s ban on these caffeinated drinks gets much more in to detail about why the drink is not healthy. There are interviews of the students, the college president, and the police chief.
There is a big difference between these two forms of communication. While both are telling the same bit of news, the article is very short and leaves out a lot of information covered in the video news report. The video also has the ability to show pictures as certain people are speaking and as descriptions are made. Adding a visual along with the information a lot of the time helps people with memory and understanding. At the same time, the article is also beneficial because it can be referred back to much easier. Both forms of communication get the point across that these drinks are not healthy and have been banned.
